Rishabh Pant Passed Away at 25 in Car Accident?
The fatal accident happened at Narsan in Haridwar district, about 90km from Dehradun. The vehicle went up in flames moments later and was reduced to a mangled, simmering heap.
The '?' in the headline of the article my friend is what we call Yellow Journalism . The fourth pillar of our democracy is wrecked by this question mark. Digital media nowadays are deploying the ammunition of question marks to garner maximum views on their platform apart from other unethical techniques.
Your favourite batter Mr. Pant is out of danger and hopefully will join the squad soon. But the question is when will the ethical journalism be out of the ventilator. Our news channels are absolutely owned by a few of the corporate houses (majorly by two) with the sole motive of spreading nexus of political and corporate propaganda. Their hate-spewing venom is more lethal than the deadliest snakes.
Barring a few, online platforms are no different. They leave no stone unturned in making sure they get maximum views on their shitpost and increase their sales. The contesting turf is not the quality content but eye catching headlines be it gossips of any celebrity of communal hatred.
Yellow journalism and yellow press are American terms for journalism and associated newspapers that present little or no legitimate, well-researched news while instead using eye-catching headlines for increased sales. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.
These platforms take most trending news or keywords and add something sensational to it. For example when Lionel Messi led his team to world cup triumph many platforms mentioned that Bank of Argentina is printing currency notes with a photo of Messi.
They intentionally promote news/videos/photos, knowing them to be fake, that spreads hatred amongst communities as they are largely seen and shared by majority of population who are indulged in insobriety of hate.
The whole idea behind writing this is just to tell how sensationalism trap you in their matrix. They capitalise on your finger-touch on these catchy but fake headlines. We apologise for using such means but our end goal is to educate our viewers against such practises and endeavour to promote platforms (such as The Wire, AltNews, Leaflet, Scroll, and Newslaundry) that intend to bring positive changes through their journalism.
